Recording artist Ricky Martin (born December 24, 1971 as José Enrique Martin Morales) is a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Martin was a member of the popular band Menudo before launching his solo career in 1991.

Ricky Martin's sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and was nominated for one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People magazine in 2000 and People en Español in 2006.

Martin, the father of twin boys, came out on March 29, 2010 in a heartfelt letter on his web site.

"A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs," he wrote. "From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time."

The singer went on to talk about his emotional connection with music and the burden of carrying a secret: "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed. I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man."
