Education Grants for African American Women

Education grants allow financially disadvantaged African-American women a chance to continue their education. Many education grants are for certain residents, ethnicities, genders and locations. African-American women have access to education grants specifically geared toward them. - The National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) sponsors the NWSA Women of Color Caucus Awards for African-American women and other women of color. Four $500 education grants are specifically for female African-American graduate students who are NWSA members. Applicants must write an essay with a critical analysis or theory about African-American women's experiences in the U.S. The deadline is May 1 each year. Applications must be submitted online.

nwsa.org - The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. sponsors the Dr. Julianne Malveaux Scholarship program for African-American women. Applicants must be in their sophomore or junior year in an accredited university or college in order to qualify. Students must major in economics or journalism. Applicants also have to possess a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Students have to write a 1,000-word essay on their career goals which must relate to the Black Women's Hands Can Rock the World program. Applications are open December 1 through March 1, and applications are available online.

nanbpwc.org - Founded in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) was created for educated African-American women. The AKA Educational Advancement Foundation sponsors the Youth Partners Accessing Capital (YPAC) scholarship. The YPAC scholarship offers up to $1,500 in grants. The YPAC scholarship is open to all AKS members who are in their second year in college with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applicants must participate in community service or leadership activities to receive the scholarship.
