These programs will provide crucial resources for Americans that are suffering a loss of jobs in today's distressed economy.
Obama's "Public Housing Capital Fund" will provide sorely needed resources for many Americans.
He has committed $4,000,000 to this housing program, of which $3,000,000 will go to public housing agencies and $1,000,000 will be provided to private sector.
The public housing grants will focus on the rehabilitation of vacant rental units, providing low-income housing that is accessible for many Americans in need.
Under a separate public housing program, $510,000,000 will be provided as "Native American Housing Block Grants" that will be available for both new construction and rehabilitation of existing structures.
Another $1,000,000 will be provided to community development programs designed for the redevelopment of existing substandard properties.
These programs have the added benefit of creating jobs for both underemployed and unemployed workers.
Obama has also made rapid re-housing for the homeless a priority in his economic stimulus package.
A "Homelessness Prevention Fund" has been established to provide short-term and medium-term assistance to the homeless.
