How Do I Choose Colors for Painted Cabinet Doors?
- 1). Examine the room around the cabinets. Take a good look that colors of the floor, wall, counters, appliances and more.
- 2). Brainstorm for colors that match what is already there. If you have a light or neutral palette in the room already, such as stone or wood, the cabinets are an option for brighter notes like citron or crimson if you want to go in that direction. For a room with more intense colors, neutral colors like earth tones can harmonize well.
- 3). Consider the value (lightness or darkness) of the color for the cabinets. Since cabinets often cover a lot of square footage of area in a room, they will absorb or reflect a fair amount of the light. Black cabinets are going to eat the light in a room, which may not be desirable if you don't have a lot of natural light. Lighter cabinets reflect light, but may be too much of a high note for a room with dark appliances or floor.
- 4). Look at magazines and design blogs online if your ideas begin to flag. You may see a color idea or scheme that inspires you, or is adaptable to your cabinets.
