In this article I want to talk about Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy, a term which not too many people are familiar with.
However, if you're into fitness and muscle building, this is a term that you need to know because it will effect how you workout and the results you get.
Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy is one of the two ways in which muscles grow and develop in response to resistance training.
In this case, the muscles grow in size due to the accumulation of a fluid, called Sarcoplasm, within the muscle tissue cells.
This fluid expands the muscles, making them bloated like a full sack.
This is how you grow in size quickly.
The downside is that Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy can be misleading.
As the growth of the muscle is due to the Sarcoplasm and not a development of muscle fibers, you may find that you did not improve in terms of strength as much as you would have expected.
So, this kind of muscle growth is not the way to improve physical ability.
In addition, as the muscle cells expand like a sack or a balloon, you may find that you won't look toned but rather puffy.
The way you train to achieve this kind of muscle growth is to train in the 10 - 15 rep range per set.
You need to use a weight which you can do a series of sets for 10 - 15 reps.
In addition, your rest between sets needs to be short, no more than 60 seconds.
This is the way to train for maximum gains in size.
Just remember that if your training is done for sports that Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy may not be of much help to you.
