How to Water Dracaena Marginata

37
    • 1). Touch the surface of the soil in the pot of the Dracaena marginata. If it is dry to the touch, it is time to water them.

    • 2). Draw lukewarm water from the tap. The water should be just slightly cooler than body temperature; it should feel neither warm nor cold when tested. Do not water dragon tree with cold water, as it shocks houseplants native to tropical conditions. If your dracaena marginata develops brown tips on its leaves, it may be due to fluoride in your water. Water with distilled water to help remedy this condition.

    • 3). Add 2 to 3 cups of lukewarm water to a 10-inch potted dragon tree; adjust the quantity proportionately for smaller or larger pots.

    • 4). Remove the drip tray promptly that is beneath the pot and that catches excess water when it drains out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Do not allow the pot to sit in the drained water for any length of time, it encourages fungal diseases.

    • 5). Mist your Dracaena marginata every few days with a plastic spray bottle. This will expose it to higher humidity levels, which mimic conditions where it grows naturally in the wild.

    • 6). Fertilize with water-soluble fertilizer mixed with water according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Water the plant with this solution every two to three weeks during the growing season. Withhold fertilizer from late autumn until the days lengthen in early spring.
