Property List Editor

  • 1). Open the App Store by clicking the App Store icon on the dock. Type "xcode" in the search bar and press "Return." Click the "Xcode" entry to open the application page.

  • 2). Click the "Free" button beneath the icon, then click the green "Install App" button to download Xcode. Once downloaded, open the Applications folder and click "Install Xcode" to install the program.

  • 3). Open a Finder window and navigate to the plist file you want to edit.

  • 4). Right-click the plist file or press the "Control" key and click the file to open the context menu.

  • 5). Click "Open With" and select "Xcode 4.1" from the list of programs. The plist file will open in a columnar window.

  • 6). Double-click an item under "Key" to change the name of a property key. Under the "Type" column, click the listed type to open a pop-up menu to change the key type. Finally, double-click the item in the "Value" column to change the listed value.

  • 7). Right-click on a blank portion of the window and select "Add Row" to add a new key to file.

  • 8). Click "File," then "Save..." or press "Command" and "S" to save the plist file.
