17
Whether you are running, going for walk in the beautiful spring sunshine or drinking beer.
Feeling good is something besides living, that we are constantly seeking.
Sometimes the hardest part of running is finding that good feeling.
When you run you feel good, because your out breathing fresh air and your away from the stresses in life.
Sometimes in the beginning of a run you may feel heavy footed, it can take up to 5 to 10 minutes for the heaviness of stress to slide off you and finally your run feels better.
The way I feel in the beginning of a run varies, sometimes I can feel instant relief from stress, other times I feel heavy and each stride is hard and it can take time before I feel light.
The instant relief from stress is what we all would like to feel; but what happens when it takes longer and your run just isn't feeling better? This could be one of the reasons you don't run or run enough! Is This sabotaging your running program? If this is your problem...
Here are some solutions!
  • Start out with some light stretching.
  • Begin your run with a longer walk or slow jog.
  • Jog slowly for a minute or so and then walk for 5 or 10 minutes (You are still getting really good exercise!)
  • Change your thinking and think of a good thing or think of a time when you did really well on the program.
  • Give yourself a pep talk! "You know you can do it!"
  • Stop and breath if it is really difficult...
Then sit or lie down if you can and close your eyes.
Try not to think of anything!
  • After about 5 or 10 minutes get up walk and then when you are ready...
    run!
