One of the shortest routes into the heart of Bahia is a stay in a Pelourinho hotel or pousada. Solar das Artes, by the same owners of Solar das Artes in Morro de São Paulo, shares with some other pousadas in this historic area of Salvador traits which can be particularly alluring to the first-timer in Bahia.
One of those traits is the house it occupies: a preserved mansion with several original architectural features.
The common areas can be used by local antiques dealers to exhibit their fare; art covers the walls and beautiful handmade objects are everywhere.
All around is Pelourinho with its old cobblestone streets, colonial churches, shops crammed with original arts and souvenirs, restaurants, bars and street events from capoeira to Carnival.

Guest rooms at Solar das Artes Pousada Boutique in Pelourinho vary in degree of comfort and price depending on whether they add up the following amenities: a fan, a mini refrigerator, A/C, a TV and a balcony. All the eight guest rooms have a private bath.
A view of the ancient neighborhood would be a desirable plus; just keep in mind that Pelourinho gets very busy, especially during events such as Carnival, St. John's Festival or festas de largo (various syncretic, Catholic and candomblé celebrations of saints' days), so choose the location of your room according to your party meter.
Solar das Artes in Salvador is just right for the tourist looking for a strategic getaway from which to explore Pelourinho. There isn't a pool at the boutique pousada, one of the reasons it is more affordable than other places to stay in Pelourinho.
The pousada is best thought of as a home with a superb location and an attractive décor which you're glad to return to after a day of busy exploring - and which you won't feel guilty about not using all day when you leave for more, intense sightseeing every morning.
