The chef has moved around: Sawasdee's original location in Búzios and a branch in São Conrado, Rio de Janeiro, have closed. But Marcos Sodré's highly praised Thai food can be enjoyed at two desirable addresses in Rio: a Bel Lobo-designed spot on super charming Rua Dias Ferreira, in Leblon, and a branch opened this month in Ipanema.

The new place is a two-story house, squeezed between two residential buildings on leafy Rua Barão da Torre and converted by architect Maurício Nóbrega (www.mauricionobrega.arq.br).

The chef's wife, Sandra Sodré, who worked at the Búzios restaurant, is now in charge of the Ipanema dining room.

A member of the Boa Lembrança Restaurant Association, Sawasdee (the name is a Thai greeting) arrived in Rio in 2007, after a decade on the Sun Coast. Chef Sodré, who has taken several culinary courses in Thailand, is known for the way he incorporates Brazilian and other influences into the traditional culinary.

Award-winning Sawasdee stands out in a city which has attractive options in Nam Thai (namthai.com.br) in Leblon and My Thai (mythai.com.br) in Botafogo.

Every time the chef moves, new creations are added to a list of favorites such as massaman curry or lamb with dates. Keep up with the latest on Facebook and on the official website, current undergoing updates.
