How to Make a Bow With a Hijab
- 1). Decide which hijab(s) you want to use. If you have a long, wide scarf such as a dupatta, you will be able to tie the bow and drape the free ends over your neck and chest. If you have square hijabs, or shorter oblong scarves like shaylas, you will need to use one for the bow and the other to cover your head, neck and chest.
- 2). Decide where you want the center of the bow to be.
- 3). Put on the under-scarf, if you're using one. Wear it cap style like a hat, or tube style like a wide headband. Both styles should meet or cover your hairline all the way around your head.
- 4). Put on any scarves you plan to wear in addition to the one you will tie into a bow. Make sure that all are secure and will not move when you tie the bow. Pin them into place with hijab pins to secure them.
- 5). Fold the scarf you plan to tie into a bow widthwise. Slip your head into the inside of the fold. The fold should be on the opposite side of where you want the center of the bow to be.
- 6). Tie the hijab in an overhand knot. Make two same-sized loops of fabric with the hijab on either side of the knot. Cross the loops and fold one loop under the other. Pull the loops until they meet the center knot but are not tight. Arrange the free ends of the hijab over your neck and chest if they are very long, or tuck them into the layers of the hijab or let the ends fly free.
