How to Install an In-Car CD Player Step-by-Step
- 1). Remove the vehicle's negative battery cable from the negative battery lead post with the wrench. Unscrew the cable's bolt at the point of connection with the battery and place the cable's clamp away from the terminal.
- 2). Remove the factory stereo from the dashboard stereo dock of the vehicle. Consult the vehicle's repair manual for exact procedures on removing the stock stereo.
- 3). Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the stock deck by unplugging the plastic wire connectors from the outlets. (Squeeze the release mechanism on the connectors if present, to unplug the wiring.)
- 4). Place the installation sleeve into the stereo dock of the vehicle. The sleeve will adapt the dock to fit the new CD player. Push the sleeve into the dock until it snaps into place.
- 5). Push the metal tabs on the inside of the sleeve outward with a screwdriver or other small tool. The tabs fold out to secure the sleeve into place in the dock.
- 6). Plug the vehicle's stereo wiring into the plastic wiring harness lead connectors. The lead connectors look similar to the stereo wiring connectors and fit together the same way the stereo wiring connects to the stock stereo outlets.
- 7). Plug the wiring harness stereo leads into the corresponding outlets on the rear panel of the new CD player.
- 8). Slide the CD player into the installation sleeve. Push the player into the sleeve until it locks into place. Pull the CD player by the face trim of the stereo to make sure the unit is fully seated into the dock of the vehicle's dashboard. The CD player should remain inside the dock if it is properly seated.
- 9). Replace the dashboard panels and other covering over the stereo dock per the repair manual.
