How to Find a House Raising Contractor in Pennsylvania

24
    • 1). Check with local building associations. The Pennsylvania Builders Association is comprised of nearly 40 local associations across the state. Contact the association in your area and ask for a list of member contractors. Because PBA-member builders and remodelers must meet certain criteria, this is an ideal way to find the most reputable builders in Pennsylvania.

    • 2). Use a search engine to locate a local contractor. Be specific in your keyword search. Not all contractors in your area may specialize in house raising, so be sure to include those words in your search. Likewise, not all contractors who perform that service will list all of their services online. If you live in a smaller area, include the county or largest metropolitan city in your search query. Keep in mind that not all contractors have websites, so do not rely solely on an online search.

    • 3). Search online directories. Like many service fields, contractors pay to be listed in industry directories. These websites allow you to search by city, state or zip code, and they often offer filters allowing you to search within a mile radius or by service.

    • 4). Visit a home and garden expo. The Pennsylvania Home Show is the largest annual home show in the state. Held each spring in Harrisburg, the expo features 350 home and garden exhibitors. This is a great place to meet contractors in person or get recommendations from other related vendors. There are smaller shows held throughout other cities in the state. Check local listings.

    • 5). Ask around, especially to those you know who have had similar work done. Word of mouth is a reliable method to find reputable contractors. If in your travels you see a home being raised, check out the signs in the yard or logos on the trucks. Better yet, stop by to find out who is doing the work.
