Type 2 Diabetes - 3 Ways To Serve Cottage Cheese in the Diabetic Diet

6
Simple and modest lifestyle changes pay off with big dividends for Type 2 diabetics.
Diabetics are always encouraged to eat a healthy diet low in calories, fat, and saturated fat.
Where fats are concerned - limit your fat intake to 30 percent of calories and saturated fat to no more than 10 percent of calories.
While cheese doesn't have a reputation as being a diet food, cottage cheese on the other hand, has long been a staple in the diet of the health conscious.
Cottage cheese is available in several varieties...
  • low-fat,
  • low sodium, or
  • mixed with fruit
It is versatile and can be consumed on its own or included in various recipes.
Cottage cheese is healthy to eat as part of a balanced diet, and provides a source of several essential nutrients.
Cottage cheese - it's one food you either love or hate.
If you happen to be on the hate side of the equation, chances are you are not making a regular effort to include this food as part of your diet plan.
This is a shame however, as it's a fantastic source of protein that will digest very slowly in your body, delivering amino acids to your muscle cells for a continual period of time while keeping hunger at bay.
Add to that the fact it's also going to boost your calcium intake and you have an excellent food that stands above many others you are likely eating.
But, how can you overcome the taste - or the texture if that's what's putting you off? Here are some fast and easy solutions...
Serve It With Grapes.
First, for some people it's simply the taste they find to be the problem.
One fast and easy way to liven up the taste is to simply add some sliced fruit to serve with it.
Grapes as well as kiwi's work perfectly here and will go a long way towards boosting the nutrition content of the snack as well.
Other people may prefer to keep it more savory, in which case adding some sliced avocado, cucumber, or even some smoked salmon could be an option.
Blend It Into A Smoothie.
The second way to incorporate cottage cheese into your diet more is to blend it right into a smoothie.
This way, you won't have to deal with the texture if that's what's putting you off eating it.
For many people this works perfectly and will prevent you from having to turn to always using protein powder in your smoothies.
Considering using half a scoop of the powder and a quarter cup of cottage cheese so you get a bit of both worlds in there.
Flavor plus the slower digesting protein.
Add It To Pancakes.
Finally, you can also add it into a healthy pancake recipe as well.
Mix together some egg whites, oats, and cottage cheese in a blender and then pour onto a hot skillet, cooking like you would a normal pancake.
Flip at half time and serve with sugar-free maple syrup.
So there you have some fast and easy ways to get your cottage cheese in.
Don't overlook this food in your diet any longer.
