How to Prevent the Oxidation of Cholesterol
- 1). Prevention of cholesterol oxidation is mostly the job of antioxidants. Antioxidant nutrients are important to the healthy metabolism of cholesterol. Take vitamins A, C and E as well as the minerals selenium and zinc to prevent oxidation. Avoid frying, smoking and curing foods as they become oxidized. Don't leave food out at room temperature as it also becomes oxidized.
- 2). Take pycnogenol supplements which prevent cholesterol oxidation. Pycnogenol comes from pine bark extract. Vitamin E only has antioxidant properties in fatty regions and vitamin C in water-based places in the body whereas pycnogenol is an effective antioxidant in both fatty and watery regions.
- 3). Increase intake of rosemary extract as it may prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Silymarin, also known as milk thistle, is a strong antioxidant that slows cholesterol oxidation as well.
