Finding Online

Gather as much information as possible about the deceased person. Information such as the date of death, place of death, date of birth and full name can help in the search process.

Visit the Find A Grave website (see Resources). This site features more than 30 million grave records from around the world, including the countries that make up the United Kingdom.

Enter as much information as you know into the "Find a Grave Search Form." This form includes information pertaining to names, birth years, death years and countries of burial. Click the "Search" button.

Scroll the list. If the result you are looking for appears, click on the name and a page will open that lists more information about the deceased, including the cemetery in which she is buried and where the burial plot is located.

Manual Search

Make an appointment to visit the town or city hall of the city where you believe your relative may be buried. It is also acceptable to call or visit without an appointment.

Ask to speak with the records secretary. Explain that you are looking for the burial spot of a deceased relative.

Peruse the archives. In many cases, you will be granted access to the archives in the city hall to look through the records yourself. Other times, the records secretary will perform the search for you.

Move on to the next city or town to search for your relative if his name is not found on the previous city's burial records. Consider asking a representative of a church that she may have attended if the church has a burial archive.
