Long in The Tooth?

4
Nothing is more discouraging than seeing my gums recede.
There is a difference between healthy gums and non-healthy gums.
Getting long in the tooth isn't necessarily something that automatically has to happen with age.
It's largely a function or byproduct of gum disease.
Many official sources say that poor oral hygiene is the cause of gum disease.
I sometimes wonder if they are not just echoing each other because no one seems to explain what 'poor oral hygiene' is.
Consider that as many as 75% or 80% of the adult population may be afflicted with gum disease.
If professionals had a way to explain good oral hygiene, could the numbers be so high? So one has to wonder about two things.
Is poor oral hygiene the cause of gum disease? If so, what is good oral hygiene?I go to a dentist every six months to get my teeth cleaned.
When it comes to explaining oral hygiene, I only hear the mantra about brushing and flossing.
Those are the things I have always done.
Yet, I still developed gum disease.
I am pretty particular about brushing and flossing and always have been.
However, I still developed this disease.
When I was told that I could lose my teeth and that they wanted to do special treatments on me, I began to ponder these questions and more.
There are many theories about gum disease and much talk about its prevalence.
Universally, virtually everyone agrees that plaque and tartar buildup (a.
k.
a.
calculus) are the cause of gum disease.
These substances harbor anaerobic bacteria.
Therefore, the next question becomes, "how can I prevent plaque build up".
Once again the answer generally returns to brushing and flossing.
This is the circle that the puzzle of gum disease revolves within.
There are certain tricks to brushing and flossing that none of the dentists or hygienists I have personally been to have taught.
For me personally, I used to floss with a basic up and down motion.
I did that between each of my teeth and then I was finished.
However, recently I began using up to fifty up and down movements.
I feel that this has been helpful.
You should still learn about proper flossing techniques from your dentist's office because many professionals may not agree.
If your gums bleed during brushing or flossing then there is a good chance you have gum disease, you'll need your dentist to confirm that for you and rule out any other problems.
However, bleeding gums are usually a symptom of gum disease.
I spent some time, a little research and gained a lot of experience trying out different things that could improve the health of my gums without the need to give up the foods and snacks that I enjoy.
In order to share this information with others, I created the Gingivitis Killer website.
If you have or think you might have gingivitis, gum disease or any other oral health problem, visit your dentist for diagnosis and treatment.
