How to Install Torque Box Supports From Wild Rides
- 1). Remove the rear seat. This simply pulls out of the car. Place a jack under the rear of the car and lift it high enough so that the rear wheels are off the ground and the axle is unloaded. Place jackstands under the car to support it.
- 2). Loosen the control arm bolt and remove the nut. Leave the bolt installed. Slide the Battle Box through the hole in the chassis near where the control arms are located. Turn the reinforcement until it fits through the hole. After it is slid through the hole, turn the Battle Box so the hole lines up with the control arm bolt.
- 3). After the Battle Boxes have been trial fitted, remove them. Spray paint them with your preferred brand of paint to prevent them from rusting.
- 4). Allow the paint to dry. Install the Battle Boxes on both sides of the car. Thread the control arm bolt through the hole in the battle box and then install the nut. Do not fully tighten the nut.
- 5). Drill the four 3/8 mounting holes for the support plates through the floorboards on both sides of the car with an electric drill. Use the support plates as a template to determine where to drill the holes.
- 6). From inside the car, pull the carpet under the rear seats up out of the way. Use a razor blade to scrape away any sound deadening in the area where you are going to install the support plates.
- 7). Install the upper support plates by sliding the bolts supplied through the holes that were drilled in the floor board. Install the nuts and tighten them. You may need an extra person to work on the inside of the car to tighten the nut and bolt onto the support plates. Tighten the nut on the front of the lower control arm.
- 8). Weld the support plates to the floorboards. You can also simply drive the car to a muffler or welding shop and have them weld the support plates in place, which is a relatively quick job. Reinstall the carpet and rear seat once the plates have been welded.
