How to Repair a Leaky Valve Cover
- 1). Cinch down the valve cover bolts with a torque wrench. If this doesn't stop the oil from leaking, go on to the next step.
- 2). Remove any throttle cables, hoses and spark plugs that might prevent you from getting to the valve cover.
- 3). Remove the valve cover bolts with a torque wrench
- 4). Lift the valve cover off. This should be fairly easy after the bolts are taken out. If it's not coming off easily, tap the cover with a rubber mallet.
- 5). Remove the old valve cover gasket that lays in a groove on the underside of the valve cover. If it is hard to take out, use a plastic tool to dig it out. Replace the old gasket with a new one.
- 6). Place the valve cover back and tighten it into place with the bolts. A torque wrench will help with the tightening.
