How to Hook a Chesapeake Yellow Perch
- 1). Tie a mini lead-head jig onto the end of a 4- to 6-pound test monofilament line with an Improved Clinch knot. Moisten the knot before pulling it tight against the eye of the mini jig.
- 2). Locate an area of slower moving water such as an estuary along the Chesapeake Bay. Look for slower moving water with grass or other aquatic plants that provide cover for perch.
- 3). Cast the mini jig along the edge of weed cover. Allow the jig to settle down through the water column. Jig the lure up and down by raising and lowering the rod tip during the retrieve.
- 4). Keep the line tight and be alert for the quick strike of a feeding yellow perch.
- 5). Set the hook by raising the rod tip or sweeping the rod back to the side when the perch strikes the mini jig. Maintain a tight line while you play and land the perch.
