DIY Step Stool Chair
- 1). Choose to either use power or hand tools for cutting.
- 2). Cut a piece of ¾-inch by 8-inch by 14-inch wood for the top of the stool. Use a vise to keep your wood stable while you cut.
- 3). Start cutting the wood for the legs using a handsaw. Make sure each leg is ¾-inch by 6 ¼-inch by 9-inch.
- 4). Use a compass to draw 4-inch semi-circles on each leg. Cut a semi-circle in each of the legs with a coping saw.
- 5). Cut a piece of wood for the brace for the center. It needs to be ¾-inch by 3-inch by 11 ½-inch.
- 6). Sand any rough edges on your pieces of wood.Turn the brace upside down and put it in a vise.
- 7). Position one of the legs on one of the edges of the brace. Drill two pilot holes where the brace and leg meet. Use two screws to attach the leg to the brace. Do the same thing on the other side with the other leg.
- 8). Place the top on to the brace and leg assembly. Drill two pilot holes on each side of the top of the stool where the top meets the leg and brace assembly. Secure the top of the stool to the brace and legs with four screws.
- 9). Mix linseed oil and turpentine together and boil them. Brush this mixture on the stool to bring out the wood's natural color. Let the coating dry for at least two days, and then add a clear lacquer sealant if you wish.
