How to Report Undocumented Immigrants
- 1). Contact ICE by phone. You can phone in a report of undocumented immigrants to ICE toll-free at (866) DHS-2-ICE. You report suspicious activity to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) at (800) BE-ALERT.
- 2). Report high priority offenses if applicable. Federal immigration enforcement agencies allocate their resources primarily to two main priorities: human trafficking and immigration document counterfeiting. While you should not put yourself in danger to learn if these activities are occurring, you should absolutely include these in your report if you know they are. Report kidnapping to the FBI at your local field office (see Resources below).
- 3). Report worksites. If you believe an employer is egregiously using undocumented workers, you should report the worksite rather than focus on the individual immigrants. Worksite investigation is a higher priority issue that is more likely to be investigated.
- 4). Use a private reporter or hotline. While it is absolutely not necessary to use a private company to report undocumented immigrants, various providers of this service are available. ReportIllegals.com charges $10 to place the report for you, and will contact multiple government agencies. The sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, opened a hotline in 2007 for reporting undocumented illegals.
- 5). Contact local law enforcement. As in Maricopa County it may be that your local county or municipal law enforcement is better able to address a problem with undocumented immigrants. Contact local law enforcement by phone to provide a tip or report a crime, particularly if it is not a high priority to federal enforcement agencies.
