15
More and more women are fighting for places in the business and corporate world and abandoning their traditional roles as home makers. There are many cleaning companies that have sprung up to fill this space. Whether you fall under this category or you simply cannot handle the dirt on your rug or carpet for such reasons as inexperience, lack of the necessary equipment or supplies, you will need to enlist the services of a carpet cleaning company. You should, however, make your choice carefully because some companies are better than others. There are several questions that you should ask the carpet cleaning companies you are considering to help you make an informed decision.

How long have you been cleaning carpets? This is an important question because you will be able to determine the experience of the team at the company. Other than the experience, you also want a carpet cleaning company that has been around for several years because longevity in the business is indication of a credibility and reliability.

Are you licensed? It is a legal requirement that all carpet cleaning companies be licensed by the relevant regulatory bodies. You should only go for a licensed company because licensing authorities do proper vetting before they can issue a license. If you have home owner's insurance, note that your insurance provider will most likely not honor your claim if the company that did the cleaning (such as following flooding) is not insured. The company should also be bonded.

Do you belong to a trade/professional organization? Although membership to a trade/professional organization is not mandatory, it is nevertheless important because these organizations have strict codes of ethics and rules that members have to abide by. You should, therefore, be on the lookout for membership to such organizations as Fabricare Institute (CFI) and Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

Do you carry insurance? You want a company that carries professional indemnity insurance because this covers you in case of a shoddy job, damage to property, and loss of property. The company should also carry worker's compensation insurance. This is important because you will be indemnified in case of an accident that leads to an injury or even fatality.

What cleaning methods do you use? Hot water extraction, dry compound cleaning, dry foam cleaning, encapsulation, bonnet, shampooing are all effective carpet cleaning methods, but you should go for a company that has the right cleaning method for your particular problem and your particular carpet/rug type. You also want the €greenest' cleaning methods.

Do you have the capacity to do the job? The company should have the relevant equipment and supplies. It should also have sufficient manpower and capacity to clean up after the job.

How much do you charge? It is human nature to want a good price, but you should be skeptical about carpet cleaning companies that have overly low prices because they could be cutting corners and offering substandard service. Consider the charging methods used (such as per-hour and per-day charging methods) and do your calculations to determine the cheapest option.
