Motorcycle Loading Ramps - Must-Have Features

58
There is a lot more to motorcycle loading ramps than meets the eye, or at least there should be.
Even though ramps are a relatively simple product, there are a few features you may want to consider before you make your purchase.
Let's take a look at some of the features that are available.
Today's motorcycle loading ramps are superior to the traditional ramps that were used in the past.
Their innovative design has led to ramps that are much easier to use.
Safety concerns have been addressed.
And they are also much lighter.
If you are looking for an easy to handle ramp, an aluminum loading ramp is probably best.
Newer ramps can often be broken down into sections.
Sectional ramps often consist of three sections which are joined with a connection rod.
This makes them great for storage as well as being quick to set up or tear down after use.
On a sectional ramp, the platform may expand to around thirty eight inches across.
This gives you lots of room to load your bike into a truck.
Once you've unloaded your bike, fold the ramp in half or even take it apart to store until the next time Although you don't necessarily have to disassemble the ramp while you go for a ride, it does allow you to stow it away while you are gone.
It does take some time to put it back together but at least you can secure it in the cab or bed of the truck instead of leaving it leaning on the tailgate.
Safety features are as important as ease of use in motorcycle loading ramps, maybe even more so.
Newer loading ramps have been developed with safety given prime importance.
First off are the safety straps which are used in two ways.
The safety straps are designed to secure the loading ramp against your tailgate so it doesn't move while you are loading or unloading your motorcycle.
You definitely don't want that ramp to start sliding while you are on it with your bike.
They are also used to hold the loading ramp together while in transit.
Again you don't want to be concerned about the ramp sliding around while your vehicle is in motion.
This can't happen if you use the safety straps to secure the ramp.
Another worthwhile safety feature is one that is especially appreciated by anyone who has to load or unload unassisted.
Use the attaching lip to ensure the ramp does not slip or move while in use.
It comes complete with rubber pads so your tailgate is not damaged during use.
There are many motorcycle loading ramps on the market today.
Be sure to check out the features each offers in order to get a ramp that is safe as well as being easy to use and store.
