How to Assemble PCs

9
    • 1). Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding on one of the PC case's side panels (unless the side panel is held on with thumb screws) and remove the side panel from the PC case.

    • 2). Put the anti-static bracelet on your wrist and clip the end of it to the edge of the PC case. This prevents static shock from ruining any of your PC's components.

    • 3). Use the screwdriver to install the power supply in the upper rear part of the PC case. Align the mounting holes in the power supply with the corresponding holes in the case, and use the screwdriver to tighten the screws.

    • 4). Use a screwdriver to install the intake and outtake fans on the PC case's fan ports. Keep air flow in mind; air comes in one end and out the other. The better the air circulation inside your PC case, the better your components will perform and the longer they will last.

    • 5). Plug a power cable from the power supply into the power cables on each of the cooling fans.

    • 6). Use a screwdriver to install the motherboard on the inside of the PC case opposite the panel that was just removed. Plug the power supply's motherboard cable into the power port on the motherboard.

    • 7). Lift the lever beside the CPU slot on the motherboard, place the CPU in the slot and lower the lever again.

    • 8). Flip the levers on each side of one of the RAM slots down (if they are not already flipped down). Place a stick of RAM over the RAM slot and press straight down. The levers will flip back in place mechanically.

    • 9). Spread a thin layer of thermal paste over the core of the CPU. Use a screwdriver to install the heat sink and fan over the CPU. This process will vary depending on the type of CPU, heat sink and fan.

Slide the hard drive into one of the hard drive slots within the PC case. Plug one of the power supply's IDE or SATA power cables (depending on the type of hard drive) into the power port on the hard drive. Connect the hard drive to the motherboard using an IDE or SATA data cable.

Remove the panel over one of the optical drive slots, and slide the optical drive into the optical drive slot until the front of the drive is flush with the front of the PC case. Just as with the hard drive, plug a power cable into the optical drive's power port, and connect it to the motherboard with a data cable.

Plug the monitor's VGA cable into the VGA port on the motherboard, which is now sticking out the rear of the PC case. Use your thumb and forefinger to tighten the screws holding the VGA plug in place.

Plug the keyboard's cable into the keyboard port on the motherboard sticking out the rear of the PC case. Plug the mouse cable into the mouse port, or into a USB port (if you have a USB mouse). All of these ports will be on modern motherboards.

Plug a surge protector into an electrical outlet, turn the surge protector on, plug a power cable into the surge protector, plug the other end of the power cable into the rear of the computer and turn on the computer. Double-check that all the fans are working.

Use a screwdriver to reattach the side panel to the PC case.
