Poker on Smartphones

16
With the rise in popularity and continual technological advancements in the world of mobile gaming, it has never been easier to play poker and other casino games when you're on the move.

In February of 2012, the leading online poker website, Pokerstars introduced concept for a poker application available to access from smartphone, android and tablet devices. After Pokerstars bosses came up with the idea they received an influx of positive feedback from their customers and decided to go ahead with the launch of the mobile games.

The mobile app is a new and innovative version of the Pokerstars website and games. Many of the features familiar to the online players will be included, such as the cash games, sit and go and multiple table tournaments. The variety of games will not go amiss either, with Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Omaha hi/low versions of poker all available to players. As well as fixed limit, no limit and pot limit versions of the games, mobile customers will also be able to choose between real money and play-for-fun options.

There are several features lacking from the mobile application that you will not be able to enjoy anywhere other than the Pokerstars website. Mixed and Stud games are not available, so players will face a much more limited range of games than they would do if they logged on from their desktop computer. In addition to this, account changes are unable to made and access to the cashier is restricted. You will also notice you are unable to make notes on your opponent’s game play, engage in home games and launch chat moderators. Another flaw is that when you receive a phone call on your device and you answer it, you will be only allowed 25 seconds to resume game play before being disconnected. However, Pokerstars are consistently looking to improve the gaming experience for their mobile users and will offer upgrades in the future.

The graphics and format of the application is impressive and allows the players to engage in a realistic poker game. iPads offer the largest screens and therefore are a natural choice for poker enthusiasts. Players accessing the application from an iPad device will also be able to play a maximum of five tables simultaneously on multi-table modes, whereas iPhone and Android users will be limited to four real money tables.

The download process is simple and fast. Pokerstars recommend that when installing the software customers use a Wi-Fi internet connection where possible as opposed to 3G, as it offers a greater speed and reliability. The company estimates that around 1MB of data will be used in the download and then an additional 500KB after an hour of game play at a single table.

The Pokerstars mobile application is now available to download for players in the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.
