Missouri Boar Hunting
- Hog season is open year-round in Missouri except during fall turkey and deer seasons on public lands. Hogs may be hunted any time on private property.
- Wild hogs are either descendants of Eurasian boars or domesticated pigs (feral hogs) that have escaped and become wild. Most wild hogs in Missouri are a combination of the two.
- Boars were brought by the Spanish in the 1600s for food and by the British in the 1800s for hunting. Their population has grown steadily and they have spread into 40 of the 50 states.
- A general hunting license is required for hunting hogs on public land. No license is required for hunting them on private property, but you must have permission from the land owner.
- Several outfitters in Missouri offer hog hunting trips. There are half day and full day hunts, and some multi-day hunts. Guides put you in the best position to make a kill. Meals and lodging are usually included.
- Wildlife management areas and national forests are two places where hogs can be hunted on public land in Missouri. Some state parks allow hunting, but some do not.
