How to Install Java for Windows XP SP2

9
    • 1). Go to Java's website (see "Resources.")

    • 2). Click "Downloads." Choose "Windows 7/XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008" online or offline versions. The offline option downloads all of the installation files to your computer, while the online option downloads the installation files from Java's servers during the installation process.

    • 3). Click "Save File" when prompted by your Internet browser. The file may download to a specific location, or you may be prompted to choose the location, depending on your browser settings. Click "My Documents" and "Save" if your browser asks you to choose a download location. If your browser does not prompt you for a download location, the file is most likely in a default download location such as "My Documents" or a "Downloads" folder located in "My Documents." Click "Tools" followed by "Options" or "Internet Options" to see where your browser is automatically downloading files. Double-click the downloaded file, then click "Run" to permit Windows to run the installation wizard. Click "Install" to start the installation.

    • 4). Choose whether to install the Yahoo! toolbar software. (This program has nothing to do with the proper installation of Java and is simply bundled in the installation package.)

    • 5). Accept the third-party software, then click "Next." A progress bar illustrates your installation progress.

    • 6). Click "Finish" to complete the installation.
