Newport Pier, once known as McFadden's Wharf, is Newport's first pier. It sits on the Balboa peninsula next to several restaurants, beach shops and the Portofino, a luxury hotel. The Dory fishing fleet launches from near the pier. The Newport Submarine Canyon passes near the end of the pier, making it a prime area to fish for Pacific hake, sanddab and sablefish. The pier is open from 6 a.m. to midnight every day.
Balboa Pier, Newport Beach's second pier, is popular among young families due to the nearby playground. The pier is home to Ruby's Dinner, a 1950s-style burger restaurant. Fishermen here have caught mackerel, shark, ray and shovelnose guitarfish. Huntington Beach Pier is the longest pier in Orange County. It spans 1,853 feet. It offers a view of passing ships, oil platforms and surfers catching waves. The pier is home to Ruby's Diner, two gift shops and a bait and tackle shop. Fishermen here have caught shark, sandy bass, halibut and bonito. It opens at 5 a.m. and closes at midnight. - Young fishermen frequent the Dana Point Harbor Fishing Pier. The kids love the loading platforms because they lie close to the shallow water. They love to watch the fish jump out of the water at regular intervals. Perch, mackerel, octopus and shark are popular catches in these waters. The pier is open 24 hours a day.
