How to Install a Radio in a 1997 Honda Passport
- 1). Lift the hood of the 1997 Honda Passport and disconnect the negative battery cable battery's negative post. To do this, loosen the cable clamp's retaining bolt with a 10mm wrench and twist the clamp off the post. Secure the cable away from the battery until the installation is complete.
- 2). Connect the stereo wiring to a wiring harness adapter (assuming the factory radio has already been removed). The wiring harness adapter will be labeled to show where the appropriate connections are to be made.
- 3). Insert the faceplate adapter into the vacant stereo mounting dock. Pull the stereo wiring, with wiring harness adapter connected, through to the front of the stereo faceplate adapter.
- 4). Connect the wiring harness adapter leads to the back of the aftermarket stereo.
- 5). Slide the aftermarket stereo into the opening provided by the newly installed faceplate adapter.
- 6). Replace the two screws on either side of the stereo mounting bracket, using a Philips-head screwdriver.
- 7). Replace the dashboard trim panel that surrounds the stereo. Align the panel on the dashboard and press firmly around the perimeter to snap it back into place.
- 8). Replace the two screws in the back of the ashtray opening with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Replace the ashtray into its slot.
- 9). Place the negative battery cable clamp around the battery's negative post. Tighten the bolt on the clamp with the 10mm wrench. Close the Passport's hood.
