Ok, so you probably have wondered at some point or another, what is causing my acne breakouts? Am I eating something which I should nott- something like chocolate?

Though acne generally may be initiated by a large number of things, there are in fact a few things that can help acne to appear. Also, there are a number of common myths around it.

But, what are pimples exactly?

Zits and pimples are pores that are blocked with sebum (oil) and turn into red and inflammated (and occasionally even infected) clogs. It is a whole process that has to do with sebaceous glands secreting oil and being overestimulated.

This is why picking your own bad spots adds up and stimulates your sebaceous glands even further and acne comes to no improvement.

5 Main Factors That Trigger Acne:

1. Hormones


This is a fact. Why do you think a pregnant women have food desires and cravings? Estrogen.

Basically, hormones control almost everything in our bodies: insulin levels, menstrual cycles, your wife's affection. Hormonal regulation is also very complex and difficult to study at a scientific level.

Acne is thought of as a hormonal triggered disorder. There are times in our lives in which hormones get just a little bitchy (yes, and you know this!) and fool around with our skin health: the age of puberty is perhaps the most known period of life where this happens. Hence, hormone imbalances can be expressed in our body as forehead acne and pimples all around our facial area.

It is also true that when acne occurs because of hormonal shifts, a true medicated (generally oral) treatment must be applied in order to see improvements. Creams and topic appliances just would not cut it, since the problem is chemical and inside the body.

2. Diet

Are acne and diet related?

If you expect to have as an answer a YES, well, the correct answer is scientists still don't know. There hasn't been enough clinical analysis and tests on the area to make such a declaration.

On the other hand, it appears somewhat intuitive (even crystal clear) that diet regime should be in some manner related to acne, right?

The truth is, researcher know that the nutrition is directly connected to insulin balance levels, which affects androgen and estrogen levels. These androgen and estrogen level fluctuations can induce your acne breakout (this is what happens to us at puberty). Yet, this is hypothesis that hasn't been proven; it makes sense in paper, but hasn't been tested favorably yet.

This also applies to chocholate and other kinds of oily food you may have. Girl, as far as we are concerned, this goes to your hips, not your forehead.

3. Stress

Something that is certainly true is that stress and anxiety don't "make" acne, but they do make it more serious.

Stress and anxiousness can be understood as any substantial psychological or actual physical stress. This is important as emotion burden and nervousness can exhibit itself at an actual physical level (thus, in your body). Good examples of stress expressing through the body are: insomnia, excessive sudoration, smoking cigarettes (more than usual), use of drugs, etc. AND acne breakouts!

What happens is that stress can bring about an inflamation-related reaction in the body and induce the pimples to split. The broken walls of the pore can contribute to redness and more infection (pus).

There are several ways to beat down emotional stress: moderate excercise, yoga and fitness classes, mediation, deep breathing exercises€ etc.

Other biological factors such as (4)nutrient insufficiency and (5) inherited genes absolutely play a role. Vitamin deficiency can be overcomed, but unfortunately body's genes is something we just have and need to overcome with offered medical treatments.
