• Landscaping refers to the placement of materials used on the home site. The materials used may be hard, such as concrete fountains and decks, or softer material, such as flowers and trees. Proper landscaping helps the home fit in with the surrounding area. Consider the type of materials you would like to use. An ideal landscaping plan will work with the climate where the house is located. If the home is in a drier climate, such as the Southwest, it may be best to use a rock garden in the front yard. Compliment the garden with plants that require little water such as cacti. If the house is located in an area where rainfall is plentiful, take advantage of that fact. Make it attractive with intricate, carved moldings and comfortable seating. Add room in the back of the house to provide a transitional space between the house and the outdoors. Attach a deck that can be reached from the kitchen, or add a gazebo in a picturesque corner of the property to provide a place for outdoor picnics.
