How To Tell A True Friend

13
    • 1). Note whether or not your friend offers to help you during your obvious times of need. A real friend will know that you are having a problem and offer to help or speak with you. An acquaintance, on the other hand, may not ask if you need help in your times of need.

    • 2). Pay attention to how often your friend asks you to do things for her. If your friend is always asking for something, then she may just be your friend for the benefits and perks you share. You should help your friends, yet the one who calls you only when she needs something is not a true friend.

    • 3). Consider whether or not your friend pays attention to you when you talk. A true friend will listen to you carefully while you're talking. An acquaintance may not pay attention or seem to care during your discussions.

    • 4). Think about whether your friend likes to do special things for you. If your friend carefully planned a party for your birthday, then she may be a real friend. However, someone who simply sends you a "Happy Birthday" text the day after your birthday may not be a true friend. A true friend will make occasions special for you and do their best to make you happy.

    • 5). Note when your friend calls or visits -- and why. Does she ask about you and how you are doing? Or does she launch into a monologue about her own activities and latest crisis? A true friend calls to check on you when she does not need something from you.
