The museum in the San Francisco county is called the Exploratorium. Its main stated mission is changing the way whole world learns. Educator and physicist Frank Oppenheimer is the founder was opened in the year 1969 in the Palace of Fine Arts. The Exploratorium was reopened at Pier 15 and Pier 17 ON 17th April 2013 on the citys Embarcadero. The historic exterior and interior of Pier 15 was redone extensively and was divided into different galleries separated according to content,including physics of listening and seeing, living systems, human behaviour, Bay Observatory Gallery, focusing on weather, local environment and landscape and an outdoor gallery

Since the Exploratoriums founding around one thousand participatory exhibits were created and approximately six hundred of them are exhibited on floor at any point of time. Not only is the museum been an exhibition space for public but has engaged in teachers professions development, education reform and promotion of other museums as education centers. The Exploratorium was a brainchild of Frank Oppenheimer. Since he was convinced that science curricula at all the levels can be supplemented only by public museum, he traveled Europe and studied European museums.

In the year 1967 Oppenheimers arrived San Francisco with a vision towards opening of an independent museum. Many famous and prominent scientists offered support and made his museum realizable. The Exploratorium was relocated in 2013, April to Pier 15 and Pier 17. The campus comprises of 330,000 square feet of indoor space and outdoor space and about 1.5 acres of public space. The Exploratorium at the Pier15 has a energy goal of net-zero as part of overall sustainability. The photovoltaic array seen on pier 15 roof is second largest in the whole of San Francisco. Over six hundred exhibits in the new site were developed especially for Pier15. The outdoor and indoor spaces are separated into 6 galleries each specific in its content.

The human behaviour is focused on the West gallery. Its exhibits and signage encourages visitors to know and play with their judgement, perception, amotion and knowing about hoe people compete co-operate and share. Mainly South Gallery acts as a workshop place wherein visitors engage in learning via hands-on making. Artworks displayed include Rolling Through The Bay Sculpture made out of one lakh tooth picks and Timberers clock.

Bechtel Central Gallery displays old and new exhibits which investigates physics and perception of color, light and sound. Living systems are housed in East gallery with exhibits of life sciences. Most exhibits associate directly to local environment like Glass Settling Plate and Algae Chandelier. Other exhibits like imaging station features stem cells of mouse, live eye dissections of cow and live embryo of chicken. The Bay Observatory gallery with glass walls mainly focuses on movement of tides and clouds, changing waterfront, interpretation of the oceanographic data and ships movement.

Outdoor gallery mainly focuses on direct interaction with bay environment like color of the water. Another notable and famous exhibit is the Remote Rain allowing people to choose past rainstorm. The Exploratorium also brings hands on training in education as part of training teachers.
