How to Trim a Dew Claw on a Chihuahua
- 1). Lay the dog down on a towel. Since chihuahua's are so small you can do this on your lap.
- 2). Locate the dew claw. It is on the side of the paw in the same position as a thumb and can be bent away from the paw for cutting.
- 3). Locate the quick. The quick is a vein that runs into the dog's nails and should not be cut. Use the guillotine style nail trimmers and cut away from the quick. If your dog has dark nails it will be difficult to see the quick so start at the tip of the nails and make several small trims instead of one big one.
