Make It Functional

• Teenagers use their bedrooms for a large variety of activities. One of those functions is doing homework. To help encourage your teenager to do her homework, give her an area in her bedroom that makes it easy to do work. This involves a desk and table next to it to give the teenager plenty of space to work on her homework. Also include a desk lamp in the room along with a freestanding lamp for extra light.
  
  

Make It Entertaining

• Teenagers like to have their own privacy, so design a teenager's room so he can entertain himself in the room. Make sure there are connections for a telephone, television and cable reception, and Internet availability for his computer. All of these allow your teenager to have the privacy he needs for phone calls along with entertainment options in his own room. If you have a second computer in the house located somewhere like a den or home office, having one in your teenager's room ensures others access to the other computer.
  
  

Get The Teenagers Input

• Even the youngest of teenagers are only four to six years away from either the opportunity to move out of the house on their own, or to attend college. Having input on the design of their own room is the first practice teenagers will have for that experience later in life. They can also add in their own touches that as a parent you might not be able to include when designing a room for a teenager, as you aren't always up on the latest teen trends. The more input a teenager has in the design of her room, the more likely she will be to use it for the functions it was designed for.
