Contemporary decor is about simple, clean lines and blocks of color. If you would like a streamlined retreat to retire to at the end of the day, use contemporary bedroom colors on the walls and in the decor. Another hallmark of contemporary interior design is that things are minimal, with few accessories. Use colors found in nature, as well as blocks of color and touches of color throughout your bedroom.

    Green

    • Shades of green give a bedroom a modern and contemporary look. Stay away from bright green and deep hunter greens. Instead, stick with sage green and mint green colors. Use a neutral linen color of paint on the walls. This pairs lovely with light wood furniture. Add cream bedding to the bed. Finish the look by placing candlesticks and picture frames in sage green throughout the bedroom.

    Red

    • Red is an energizing color and small amounts of it in a contemporary bedroom can work well. While you wouldn't want to paint all of your walls in a bright red color, perhaps a small accent wall in a deep, rich red creates a modern environment. Another option is to add deep red pillowcases to a neutral bed. Adding a touch of red in window treatments, such as sheer curtains, also works well.

    Neutrals

    • Neutral tones of beige, coffee and cream are ideal contemporary bedroom colors. Highlight these neutral tones with touches of brown and pops of deep orange. They are all examples of warm neutral, and thus you should pair them with warm colors, such as the brown and orange. Use a cream color on the wall, and consider adding an area rug with brown, orange and even teal in it.

    White

    • White is the perfect color to use in your contemporary bedroom. White walls work well with just about every type of decor. All-white bedding is sleek and luxurious. Pair the white palette with a modern, platform bed in a rich brown color, as well as furniture in similar wood tones. Soft khaki tones throughout the room complete the spa look.
