A Hippo Mom"s Big Butt
There's no stopping the paparazzi. Ever since Paula the Hippo gave birth, she's been the Berlin Zoo's star. Unfortunately, in this shot, she's overexposed.
The new calf, Paula, was born in late November. She weighed about 80 lbs. at birth, but will grow to more than two tons.
Contrary to popular belief, adult hippos can't swim. They travel through water by pushing themselves off the bottom. Paula, a baby, can kick through the water, or rest on her mom's back.
