How to Place & Install a Teflon Seal on a Diverter
- 1). Turn off the water supply to the shower by closing a valve upstream. Release the pressure in the pipes by opening the shower's valves.
- 2). Remove the diverter knob by unscrewing the screw holding it on. Pull off the knob with your hands.
- 3). Remove the bolt securing the shower diverter to the plumbing. This bolt is in the center of the diverter. Pull the diverter from the plumbing, by rotating it and pulling with your hands.
- 4). Remove the Teflon "O" ring on the end of the diverter by pulling it off. Insect the diverter's seat for corrosion, pitting or any other damage. If any of these conditions exists, replace the whole diverter with a new unit.
- 5). Place the new "O" ring in the old seal's location, by sliding it onto the end. Be careful not to damage the new "O" ring when installing it.
- 6). Reinstall the diverter by reversing the steps used to remove it.
