  Arizona is known for its scenic views and lush natural landscapes. These reasons also make Arizona a popular place to ride ATVs, also known as all terrain vehicles. There are number of public and private courses ATV enthusiasts can ride on in Arizona, but there are also a number of regulations as well.
  
  

Title, Registration and Insurance

• In Arizona you do not need to have your ATV insured in order to drive it. If you are driving on your own property, you do not need to have a license but do need to be at least the minimum operator age, which is 15. In order to ride an ATV on public land, you must have your ATV registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles. All ATVs must be titled with the DMV and the owner will receive a license plate to affix to her vehicle.
  
  

Protective Gear

• Helmets are required when riding ATVs in Arizona, whether it is on public or private land. Riding without a helmet can net the rider a $300 fine and possible suspension of license. There are no requirements on other protective riding gear; however, many public ATV courses require riders to wear full pads and gear in order to ride on their courses.
  
  

Driving Restrictions

• ATVs are only allowed to be driven on public land and roads that are clearly designated for use ATVs and other off-highway vehicles. ATVs are not allowed on highways or interstates. Riding an ATV on public roads not designated for ATV use can net the rider a fine of up to $500 and a possible suspension of driver's license.
