Hardin, Dogwood, James, Freeman, Maxinkuckee, Michigan, Monroe, Patoka, Salamonie and Wawasee. Reservoirs like Geist, Eagle Creek, Mississinewa, Morse, Prairie Creek and Turtle Creek are also well-known catfish habitats.
- 2). Obtain a topographic map. particularly if you are planning to fish in larger bodies of water like the 10,750-acre Lake Monroe in Bloomington. Accurate maps allow you to target catfish holding areas more efficiently, which saves a lot of searching.
- 3). Fish in areas like drop-offs, channels, ledges and banks. Catfish are known to inhabit these areas more so than open waters. They also congregate near feeder creeks, especially during the springtime.
- 4). Target channel catfish during spring and fall, use crawfish and other small baitfish. Suspend baits in varying depths in areas with rock and gravel. When fishing for flathead catfish, use baits like live shiners, chubs and cut baits. Flathead catfish can be found near submerged logs and other structures that serve as covers. After dark is usually the best time to catch them.
