My Droid Is Stuck in Boot-up Mode
- To interrupt the boot-up process, you need to remove the battery. If the phone won't turn off and is unresponsive, flip it over and remove the back cover. Pull the battery out and place it in a safe area for a few minutes before replacing it. Return the back cover to the correct position and try to turn the phone on. If the phone cycles through the boot-up process, you do not need to take further action.
- When you visit Motorola's support website, you have the opportunity to connect your phone via a USB cable so that the company can assist you with troubleshooting the problem. If you've got a USB cable, follow the on-screen directions when visiting the support website to troubleshoot your Droid. A software update, which may take place once you plug the phone in, may help resolve the problem.
- If the phone becoming stuck in a boot cycle is a frequent problem, you may need to perform a soft reset. Remove the battery, then replace it and allow the phone to turn on completely. When the phone is on, Navigate through the Menu to Settings, where you can select "Privacy" and then "Factory Data Reset." Choose the "Reset" option to return your phone to the factory settings. Be aware that performing a reset will delete all of your information stored on the phone.
- A hard reset may be necessary if the phone is unresponsive and removing the battery did not work to get the phone out of the boot cycle. Turn off the phone, if possible, then press the "x" key and the "Power" button at the same time. This action will bring up a recovery screen where you can press the "Volume Up" key and the "Camera" button to view a recovery menu. Choose "Wipe Data" and then "Reboo"t phone to perform a reset, which will delete all of your saved information.
