How to Turn on Task Manager on Windows XP
- 1). Click "Start" and open "Run." Type "gpedit.msc" (without quotations) into the run box. Hit "Enter" or click "Ok."
- 2). Click on "User Configuration" then "Administrative Templates." Click on "System" then "Ctrl+Alt+Del Options."
- 3). Double-click on "Remove Task Manager." Change the configuration to "Not Configured." This turns the task manager on.
- 1). Open "Performance and Maintenance" from your control panel. Select "System" and choose "System Restore." Select "Create a Restore" point and follow the prompts to backup your system. This protects your registry in case you make an error. Click "Start" then "Run." Type "regedit.exe" (without quotations).
- 2). Expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder. Click on "Software," and then click on "Microsoft." Click "Windows" then "Current Version."
- 3). Select "Policies" then "System." Double-click on the file in the right part of the window. This opens it and allows you to view the string.
- 4). Delete the term "DisableTaskManager" from the string. Be very careful not to delete anything else. Click on "Ok" and close the registry editor. The task manager is re-enabled.
