How to Hang Glaze for Wood
- 1). Clean the item you want to glaze. If the item, such as a cabinet door, has been freshly painted, you may skip this step. You should seal or paint the item before beginning glazing.
- 2). Pour one part glaze to one part paint in the disposable mixing bowl. If you want a thicker glaze or darker look use two or three parts paint to one part glaze. If you want a thinner or lighter glaze use two or three parts glaze to one part paint. Mix well. The glaze may appear milky but will dry to a translucent look.
- 3). Dip the rag or cloth into the glaze and begin applying the glaze to a small area of the wood. Rub the glaze into the crevices, moldings and over the corners. The hanging glaze will accent these areas with a contrasting look.
- 4). Wipe off the excess glaze using cheesecloth or rags. It is best to work quickly.
- 5). Feather the glaze out from within the moldings and crevices with a brush in an appropriate size.
- 6). Repeat steps 3 through 5 until you have glazed the entire item.
- 7). Allow the glaze to dry completely. Typically this will take about eight hours.
- 8). Seal the dry piece with a semi-gloss or high gloss varnish for a longer-lasting surface.
