Electric Fence Gate Wiring
- 1). Extend the wire from its last point to the post you plan to use for the gate hinge. The width from the last segment to the post depends upon how much room you need to get in and out of the fenced area.
- 2). Screw the eye bolts into the post at the approximate height of each strand of electrified wire. For most livestock, the wires are about 4 to 6 inches apart. Make sure the bolts are securely fastened to the post.
- 3). Connect the insulated fence handles to the end of the electric wire. You can use a simple square knot to secure them. Attach the hooks on the handles to the eye bolts on the post, making sure there isn't too much slack in the gate section of the fence and the electric fence wires are not touching each other.
- 4). Connect the fence to the charger and test the power across the gate. If there are problems with the gate, such as little or no current, check other segments of the fence. It's rare that there will be problems with a gate but not with the fence.
