Your doctor will most likely place you on a statin drug to reduce your cholesterol.
There is one thing to be aware of with regard to statins.
There is a body of evidence to suggest that statin drugs while effective at reducing cholesterol also cause side effects such as possible damage to your liver.
Most likely, based on recent clinical studies over the last twenty years, you doctor will also suggest a supplement based on the effects of fish oil.
Cold water fish like salmon and blue fish are very oily; this fish oil if full of fatty acids that the body needs to fight bad cholesterol.
