How to Plant a Wing-Ding Rosebush

    Planting

    • 1). Pick a site that receives at least six hours of full sun per day. Shovel out a planting hole that's at least 1 foot deep and twice as wide.

    • 2). Mix all of the soil removed from the planting hole with 1 gallon of compost.

    • 3). Return 1 or 2 spades of the dirt/compost mix to the bottom of the planting hole. If planting a bare-root rose, make a mound of the dirt compost in the hole that's about two-thirds the height of the hole.

    • 4). Arrange the Wing-Ding roots over the dirt/compost mound. For a potted rose, remove the nursery pot and center the plant in the planting hole. If necessary, add additional dirt/compost to the bottom of the hole so that the top of the rose's soil/root ball is level with the top of the planting hole.

    • 5). Fill the hole about halfway, firm the soil to eliminate air pockets and add water. When water has settled, complete the filling of the hole, firming again when filling is complete.

    • 6). Mulch the area around the plant to a depth of 2 inches, but do not allow mulch to touch the stems of the rose.
