Where to go clubbing in Tokyo

7
Outside of the normal clubs in Tokyo, there are your standard bars and Japanese bars called izakaya. Most of these places are open quite late but on average will close around 2 AM. Getting around Tokyo it is primarily by train. I can no longer count on my fingers the number of times I went to a bar in Tokyo and left at 2 AM only to realise that my first train home was not till 5 AM.

The best thing about nightclubs is that they are open all the way into the wee hours of the morning. Of course you have to pay a standard entry that ranges anywhere from ?2000-?5000. When I was in Tokyo the majority of the nightclubs were in Shibuya or Roppongi or Ginza. The cheapest nightclubs were in Roppongi and Shibuya. Ginza was a much more expensive night out and it wasn't surprising as Ginza it is known as the upper class area of Tokyo.

If you are in Shibuya then I recommend you check out club atom and club Asia. These two clubs are located within walking distance to each other. In fact the street they are on contains as much as four or five other clubs. To find club atom walk to Shibuya 109 take the left road and keep walking straight down until you hit the second intersection with cars on it.

If you are in Roppongi than all the nightclubs and bars can be accessed by taking the correct exit out of the subway and walking less than 100m away. If you are lost than just ask for directions to TGI Friday's as this will place you right in the middle of the thoroughfare.

Clubbing and drinking in Japan does not have to be expensive. You might be able to find some nightclubs that offer an all you can drink service for about ?5000. Although this is not so common if you really need a cheap drink than all convenience stores in Japan are licensed to sell alcohol. It is also not illegal to consume alcohol in public. There is nothing to stop you from buying a cheap canopy and drinking it 5 min before you enter the nightclub down the road.

Once you are in a nightclub in Japan expect to pay at least ?800-?1000 for a drink. These are standard prices. Entry will also set you back at least ?2000 but once paid sometimes you may be even given a free drink token or two.

The best way to find a nightclub in Japan is to ask the locals all to follow the crowd. Part of the fun is to discover and find your own nightclubs, the best place to start would be in Roppongi as most of the nightclub staff here speak English.
