Dark chocolate came from a drink created by the cultures of Central and South America from cacao seeds. This drink was very bitter so it was laced with vanilla, chili pepper and alcohol to change its taste. Over the centuries, sugar was mixed into it and in 1847 it was pressed into a hard solid edible piece of chocolate by Fry and Sons of England. This was the first piece of dark chocolate ever and is now one of the most popular sweets in the world today. - Individual pieces of dark chocolate can be selected from a wide range of different shapes and fillings from a variety of chocolatiers, like Godiva, World's Finest Chocolates or Lake Champlain Chocolates. Each of these pieces can be put inside a box with each piece of chocolate separated individually, with box sizes ranging from three pieces and up.
- A wide variety of dark chocolates can also be gathered into an eclectic gift basket. This selection can include individual chocolate bars, bags of candied dark chocolate pieces or dark chocolate covered nuts and chocolate sticks in tin cans.
- Dark chocolate pastries range from brownies to cookies. These pastries can be made on your own with or ordered from a chocolatier. Remember--these pastries will not keep over an extended period of time so they will have to be eaten quickly before going stale.
