How to Thoroughly Fish a Pond
- 1). Walk around the pond, examining potential fishing areas. Fishing from the shore is the easiest way to begin fishing your pond, and finding areas that might harbor fish will save you time. Look for spots in the lake with overhanging branches and rock outcroppings that provide fish with cover.
- 2). Drive your pole rests into the shore where you will be fishing. Bait your poles and cast them into the water, setting your poles on the rests and turning your reel gently to tighten your line. A tight line keeps your pole upright and will allow you to notice when a fish strikes, indicated by a strong downward movement in the end of your pole.
- 3). Watch your pole carefully for signs of a strike; pick up the pole and make a sharp upwards movement to set the hook when you get a bite. Reel in your fish, removing the hook from its mouth as gently as possible, and place it in your creel or basket.
- 4). Recast your line see if you get another bite. If you keep catching fish in this area, stay there. If you stop getting bites, move onto another area and cast your line again.
- 5). When you stop catching fish from the shore, launch your boat and continue fishing on the lake. Fish one section of the lake at a time, bringing in fish and recasting your pole in the same area until you stop getting bites. Move your boat slowly through the water to keep from disturbing the fish.
